About the project

I’m creating a growing collection of hand-drawn portraits of the people who make this town what it is — residents, visitors, and everyone in between.

Over the course of the project, I’m inviting members of the local community to sit for me for around 30 minutes while I create their portrait in ballpoint pen. There’s no cost to take part, and you don’t need to be an artist, a model, or particularly comfortable having your photograph taken — just come as you are and give me a little time to draw you.

My aim is to create at least 50 portraits, building a diverse collection that reflects the people who live in, work in, and visit the town. The finished portraits will form a body of work that I hope to exhibit in the future.

Alongside the portrait, I’m asking each person to complete a short prompt card sharing something they love about the town — a favourite place, a memory, a person, or simply something that makes it feel like home. These small contributions will become part of the story behind the portraits, helping me discover the town through the eyes of the people who experience it.
